Bert’s Knoty Girl Breaks Maiden at Gulfstream

Dan Preiss Bloodstock is proud to announce the first victory for Bert’s Knoty Girl, a chestnut 2-year-old daughter of Mitole out of Here Music. Purchased for $90,000 at the OBS March 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale from Navas Equine on behalf of REH LLC, she delivered in style to break her maiden in a $70,000 Maiden Special Weight at Gulfstream Park on September 27.

Trained by Jeff Engler and ridden by Yolber Torres, Bert’s Knoty Girl showed her class in her third career start. She broke smartly, settled just off the pace in second, and when asked on the far turn, she dug in with determination to take the lead and fought all the way to the wire to win by a neck going one mile on the turf.

This breakthrough maiden win comes after two strong efforts finishing third in maiden special weight company, highlighting the filly’s steady progression and promise for the future. A Kentucky-bred with a beautiful physical and full of grit, Bert’s Knoty Girl is showing the qualities that made her a standout purchase earlier this year.
